Bloodshot #1 Cover B by Dave Johnson |
In Bloodshot #1, colorist Andrew Dalhouse brings us into a French government building with aged and faded furnishings. Even though these officials are dressed to impressed, he also suggests exhaustion by how he shades their clothes. I wonder what he's suggesting by coloring the British Prime Minister's shirt pink?
Say, Punk Mambo is British, isn't she?
We don't see the fires, but the way Andrew colors the smoke tells us we're on a battlefield. Even though the sky is gray, the glow of the Humvee's headlights reminds us it's night.
I don't know what kind of lighting shines inside the CivAid truck's cargo area, but the way Andrew colors the scene green reminds us of how fluorescent lighting can affect photographs. Of course, we associate green with fields use to grow crops. Interestingly, the water bottles--associated with lakes and rivers--are colored blue.
Underneath the truck, we see the swirling exhaust and smoke that penciler Brett Booth uses to enhance this issue. But Andrew contributes a haze to the stark darkness beneath the vehicle. The sight of those glowing red eyes are enough to make us shiver.
Welcome to your nightmare.
In Bloodshot #1, colorist Andrew Dalhouse enhances his scenes with the characters' emotions, charges his settings with associations, and shocks us into awe and fear. What a way to usher readers into a new series!
