After the destruction of the orbital city New Japan, Rai becomes the guardian of Earth in 4002 AD. Aided by his older-but-younger-looking brother Raijin, the two wander through wastelands and farmlands, visit fabulous cities, and fight mighty battles. All the while, they search for traces of Bloodfather, the malevolent artificial intelligence (A.I.) who can infect any electronic/computerized system, and instantly convert peaceful people into warmongering drones.
